Post-16 Financial Support

At Oasis Academy South Bank we are committed to ensuring students have access to quality education and overcoming financial barriers. Please see the information below regarding opportunities and the range of services available to support a student's learning and development.

16 to 19 Bursary Fund

The Government's 16 to 19 Bursary Fund provides financial support to students between the ages of 16 and 19 years old on the 31st August before the academic year begins.

Bursary funds can be used to help students with the cost of:

  • Transport and lunch on the days of study
  • Essential books and equipment
  • Specialist clothing
  • Trips that are mandatory as part of the course curriculum

There are two types of 16 to 19 bursary:

  • A bursary for students in vulnerable groups
  • A discretionary bursary

Bursary for students in vulnerable groups

Students that fall into one or more of the following defined vulnerable groups could be entitled to a bursary worth up to £1,2000:

  • You are in or, recently left, local authority care
  • You are personally receiving Income Support or Universal Credit
  • You are in receipt of a Disability Living Allowance (DLA) in your name and either Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) or Universal Credit
  • You get a Personal Independent Payment (PIP) in your name and either ESA or Universal Credit

Discretionary Bursary

Students that do not qualify for a bursary for students in vulnerable groups may still be able to secure financial help if they are eligible for the discretionary bursary.
