Year 6 – 7 Transition 2021
Due to rising COVID cases across schools, we have had to make the decision to NOT go ahead with the transition day planned for Monday 12th July. Our priority is to keep you and your families safe, and cannot guarantee to keep different primary bubbles separated on the day.
We are thrilled to announce that we have secured funding to run a Year 6 to 7 Transition Summer School this year. Our summer program will include core lessons to catch students up and prepare them for secondary school classwork alongside enrichment activities designed to excite students and build a positive group culture. The summer school will run from Monday 9th – Friday 13th August. Research has shown students who attend a summer school program make on average 2 months' additional progress compared to students who do not attend. We are therefore hoping to have the vast majority of our incoming Year 7 cohort in attendance.

Language at GCSE
At Oasis Academy South Bank, students study either French or Spanish as a language at GCSE. Students specialise in their language GCSE from the start of Year 7, enabling them to make the most progress possible.
We are therefore asking all Year 6 students to return the form below to indicate their preferred language for GCSE. We must stress that whilst we will endeavour to grant everybody their first choice, this cannot be guaranteed.
Furthermore, due to the fluid nature of set changes at Oasis South Bank, there may be few instances of children having to swap languages in Year 7. We will endeavour to keep this to a minimum and do not see it as being detrimental to their language-learning outcomes.
If you could please take a moment to indicate via the survey linked below on your preference of Spanish or French for your child, it would be much appreciated. The Deadline for this is Monday 19th July 2021.

A message from your Head of Year
Choosing a secondary school is an incredibly important and difficult decision as a parent and pupil and I am so glad that you chose Oasis Academy South Bank for this journey.
I would like to introduce myself as Ms Bajulaiye, and I am the Head of Year 7 and Science teacher at OASB. I have always had a passion for pastoral and can honestly say that I love supporting students on their educational journey. My hope is that all pupils in my care have as smooth a transition from primary school as possible and that they make an excellent start to secondary school. I am excited to be able to watch this Year 7 cohort grow and flourish.
It goes without saying that these last 2 years have been extraordinary and have taken some getting used to. Under normal circumstances in July, we usually hold an Induction Day, whereby all the Year 6 joining us will have a very special day experiencing some of our lessons and meeting important people at OASB, including finding out who is in their House group and who their House coach is. This is a very special day where we hope to remove any fears the children may have before the summer holiday. However, this year we will be instead holding a summer school which is a week-long that aims to do the same things.
At OASB we are always keen to praise students for their efforts and contributions to our school. This is done regularly by teachers rewarding merits, positive postcards, reward trips, and celebration assemblies at the end of each term. As well as good behaviour and effort we reward good attendance, academic progress and significant improvements.
I aim to build strong, positive relationships will all students and parents over the next few years, ensuring that I work hard to create a happy, vibrant and thriving cohort of students who are proud to be a part of OASB. We support students to develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed in Year 7and beyond; to make healthy, positive friendships and always conduct themselves with respect and dignity. I look forward to meeting you all.

What date will they start in September?
Year 7s and their parents/ carers will be invited in for 1:1 meetings on Friday 3rd September and term will start on Monday 6th September.
Is the Summer School compulsory?
Whilst the Summer School is not compulsory, we would highly recommend your child attends if possible. It will allow them to meet their peers, get to know school systems ahead of September and take part in some enriching activities in the afternoons.
We are so excited for your child to join our OASB family.
